Program Participant Testimonials & Success Stories

At SORCe we aim to show each and every person that walks through our doors compassion and respect.  Here's what our clients have to say about us:

“ I want to thank the Diversion Strategist for her supports during my time of need. She got me a winter coat and damage deposit along with a little welcome home hamper that was packed with items I really needed. I just want to express my deepest gratitude because I know many people went homeless this winter and the supports I got from the SORCe gave me so many blessings. The Diversion Strategist went above and beyond in assisting me with everything I needed. Thank you for your time and efforts!! Have a great New Year!!!” - Rose

“Joe” came to SORCe in July 2022 to get some housing resources and access the communication hub for housing search, they were experiencing significant anxiety about their housing instability. “Joe” was able to connect with Rapid Care Counselling at SORCe to receive mental health support. “Joe” also connected with the Financial Empowerment Program and completed an Needs and Services Questionnaire with the CAA team. From July 2022 to January 2023, “Joe” accessed SORCe services almost daily, receiving basic needs, pet food and various supports from staff and the client was able to move into their father’s basement temporarily. System Navigation and Resource Specialist staff assisted this client in communication with Alberta Works in order to complete the audit process and get benefits reinstated successfully.

“Jane’s” story:

“Jane” and her daughter presented at SORCe inquiring about an upcoming eviction.  Once connected to the appropriate staff member, they begun looking into some options that may be available for “Jane”, and created a rough plan to assist her in her current housing needs.

“Jane” appeared to be visibly confused and distraught, therefore, our staff member requested to speak to the daughter alone to investigate the situation further. Upon further discussion with “Jane’s” daughter, it was disclosed that ”Jane” suffered from bi-polar disorder and was currently needing supports, and her daughter was unsure of where to turn for help. The SORCe staff immediately contacted the Urgent Mental Health workers who are located on site for an evaluation. Within 45 minutes “Jane” was admitted to the hospital for longer term support.

What initially appeared to be a straight-forward housing concern, turned into a serious mental health emergency. Because of the trained staff at the SORCe, a member of Calgary’s community is receiving the care they deserve and require.

I went into the SORCe to start looking for housing and I met the worker :) She was amazing to work with and helped me with a kind and caring heart at a time when things felt very stressed . She set me up with a referral for funding for a damage deposit to get my home I currently live in. Due to this my son was able to come home and be with me and we are housed in a beautiful home. Just recently we received a gift card for help with food as well it was a true blessing and came at the perfect time to get food for our home! Thankyou so much for all you did for me , I would recommend you to anyone coming in, you have the kindest heart and it’s obvious you aren’t just doing a job you actually care about the people you help. Forever grateful !
